Supporting local groups doing the work that really matters — for pets, for people, and for the Lowcountry.

A bold lighthouse and docked boats flank a central ad for Daygig Painting, featuring a yellow sun and text: "Giving Where We Live."

At Daygig Painting, we spend a lot of time thinking about the outside of your home — how it holds up to the weather, how it fits the neighborhood, how good it feels to pull into the driveway and see a place that feels like you.

But there’s more to a strong community than clean siding and fresh paint. And this month, we want to use this space to highlight two local organizations we’ve been proud to support.

Hilton Head Humane Association

Billy Howe of Daygig Painting presents Frannie at Hilton Head Humane Association with a check for $1,000.
We recently donated $1,000 to Frannie at HHHA to help fuel their work — and we encourage anyone who’s able to consider donating, volunteering, or stopping by their thrift store, The Litter Box, which helps fund their operations.

Giving shelter, healing, and second chances to thousands

If you’ve ever adopted a pet, you know how quickly they become part of your family. The team at Hilton Head Humane Association (HHHA) works tirelessly to make those moments possible.

In the past year alone, HHHA has cared for over 10,000 animals — abandoned, injured, abused, or feral. Every one of them received food, shelter, medical care, and attention from a staff and group of volunteers who show up every day with compassion and grit.

Their mission is simple: improve the lives of homeless cats and dogs, and help reduce the number of animals that are surrendered or born into hardship in the first place. That includes a strong spay/neuter program (including trap-neuter-return efforts for feral cats), adoption services, and even evacuation support during hurricanes.

Want to adopt a four-legged roommate or lend a hand? Visit hhhumane.org. They’re doing real, tangible work that changes lives — and homes — every day.

Lowcountry Food Bank is one of the busiest buildings in the region — working every day to make sure no one goes hungry.

Lowcountry Food Bank

Fighting hunger across the Lowcountry since 1983

Lowcountry Food Bank has been tackling food insecurity in the region for over 40 years — and their reach is massive! Serving 10 coastal counties in South Carolina, they provide food assistance to over 200,000 people every year.

That work happens through a wide network of more than 240 partner agencies including pantries, shelters, veterans’ groups, schools, and senior programs. In 2024 alone, the food bank distributed:

  • 45.8 million pounds of food

  • 17 million pounds of fresh produce

That’s not just bulk food. That’s targeted, nutritious, and dignity-focused support for children, seniors, working families, and anyone struggling to put food on the table.

They’ve grown from humble beginnings into a well-oiled machine powered by 75+ staff, 5,000 volunteers, and a deep commitment to equity and access. We’ve been donating since 2020 — and we’ll keep doing so. The need is ongoing, and the work is serious.

You can learn more about their programs or donate directly at lowcountryfoodbank.org.

Why We're Sharing This

We believe these organizations deserve more attention, and if sharing this information nudges even one person to take a closer look, it’s worth it.

The truth is, not everyone gets the same shot at stability, safety, or even dinner on the table. But these groups show up anyway. They do the work most people never see. And they do it well.

If you've got the means, the time, or just the interest, check them out. Every bit helps. And every bit matters.

Thank you.
